Qatar has voiced strong condemnation of the recent attacks by Houthi forces targeting civilian and economic sites in southern Saudi Arabia. Expressing solidarity with Saudi Arabia, Qatar supports Riyadh’s measures to safeguard its security and sovereignty. This condemnation was communicated by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani during a phone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, where they also discussed ongoing regional developments and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and ensuring regional stability.
The attacks, which hit areas such as Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, resulted in injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children, and caused temporary disruptions to some energy facilities. Qatar characterized these assaults as a dangerous escalation and a breach of Saudi sovereignty and international law. In response, Doha has urged the international community to take stronger measures against these attacks and support the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Yemen and Red Sea security.
Amid rising tensions, hostilities between the Houthis and Saudi-backed forces have intensified, leading to increased concerns about a potential wider conflict. The Houthi rebels, who control Sanaa and large parts of northern Yemen, have escalated their attacks on Saudi territories and vessels in the Red Sea. In retaliation, government-aligned forces have launched offensives against areas held by the Houthis.
