Saudi Arabia’s flagship airline, Saudia, has announced an ambitious plan to establish a direct flight route between Riyadh and Tokyo, set to commence in November 2026. This new connection will feature three flights per week departing from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, marking a significant step in deepening travel and tourism ties between Saudi Arabia and Japan. The initiative is part of a cooperative effort with the Air Connectivity Program and the Saudi Tourism Authority, aimed at boosting tourism, trade, and business interactions between the two nations.
The introduction of this route aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to position the Kingdom as a key global hub for tourism and logistics. This vision is supported by the National Aviation Strategy and National Tourism Strategy, both of which underscore the importance of expanding international gateways to enhance accessibility to Saudi Arabia. As part of these efforts, the Saudi Tourism Authority is actively working with Japanese partners to create appealing travel packages for tourists, promoting the Kingdom as an enticing destination.
In addition to fostering tourism, the forthcoming flight path is expected to facilitate travel for upcoming major events, such as the AFC Asian Cup 2027, which Saudi Arabia will host. The new air link underscores the country’s commitment to improving global connectivity and accommodating international visitors for significant sporting occasions.
Saudia currently operates flights to over 100 destinations around the globe and is in the process of expanding its fleet. Plans are underway to introduce 112 new aircraft, a move that will further enhance the airline’s capacity to broaden its international reach and improve its service offerings worldwide. This expansion supports Saudia’s mission to become a leading player in the global aviation industry.
