In a collaborative effort to bolster food security in Yemen, the Saudi aid organization KSrelief and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office have announced a joint $10 million initiative. Each contributing $5 million, the project is designed to support vulnerable communities and enhance long-term resilience in the region.
The initiative will be executed in several Yemeni governorates—Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij—through the UN World Food Programme. The project aims to provide conditional cash transfers which will improve food access, restore productive infrastructure, and facilitate the transition of families from emergency food assistance to greater self-reliance.
Beyond immediate food aid, the initiative includes vocational training and support for local authorities. It also aims to enhance governance and promote the sustainable management of community resources, fostering a more resilient and self-sufficient future for the participating regions.
This agreement is part of Saudi Arabia’s expansive humanitarian efforts through KSrelief, which has been active since 2015, implementing over 4,400 aid projects across 113 countries at a cost exceeding $8.5 billion. The partnership with the UK represents another significant step in addressing the pressing humanitarian needs in Yemen.
