The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of recent comments made by the Houthi group, which included threats to impose a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia. In response, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged the international community to ensure the enforcement of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions that pertain to Yemen and the security of maritime operations in the Red Sea.

Highlighting the importance of these resolutions, the UAE ministry pointed to Resolution 2216, which addresses the situation in Yemen, and Resolution 2722, which focuses on safeguarding navigation rights and the freedom of movement in the Red Sea. These resolutions are seen as crucial to maintaining stability and security in the region, especially amid escalating tensions.

The UAE emphasized that according to international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, freedom of navigation in international waters is a right that must be protected. This statement underscores the nation’s commitment to upholding international legal standards and ensuring the free movement of vessels through critical maritime routes.

Furthermore, the UAE reaffirmed its unwavering support for Saudi Arabia, expressing full solidarity with the kingdom and backing any measures that are aimed at safeguarding its security and stability. This stance reflects the close diplomatic ties between the UAE and Saudi Arabia and their mutual interest in regional peace and security.
